Deafblind Awareness

Every year the last week of June is devoted to one thing - recognition of Deafblindness. The purpose of Deaf-Blind Awareness Week is to pay homage to Helen Keller, the Deafblind woman who was born that week, the week focuses on increasing public awareness and understanding of Deafblindness.

Deafblind Awareness Week 2016

Deafblind Awareness sessions can be arranged to meet your needs, we can tailor the sessions depending on who you are:

* Social workers

*Health Professionals

* Care Staff

* Family and Friends

Awareness sessions provide health and social care professionals, social workers or even families of newly diagnosed Deafblind people with a broad overview of some of the specific and unique issues that affect people with Dual sensory loss (combined sight and hearing loss).

These sessions are tailored to meet the needs of particular audiences but we typically include:

  • Accessible information and Mobility
  • Communication methods and tactics
  • Guiding skills and preferences
  • Support services for deafblind people

The purpose of these talks is to raise awareness of the barriers that many deafblind people face, and support health and social professionals in developing and improving access to services for this group
